My Father’s Dragon Exhibition

Butler Gallery continued its successful partnership with the immensely talented Kilkenny-based and five-time Oscar©-nominated Irish animation studio, Cartoon Saloon, in an exhibition response to their animated film, My Father’s Dragon, directed by Nora Twomey. This partnership celebrated the film, which is based on the beloved 1948 fantastical children’s novel by Ruth Stiles Gannett. The story follows Elmer Elevator, a boy who runs away from home to rescue Boris, a captive baby dragon on a wild island.

The exhibition, curated by Anna O’Sullivan, Butler Gallery Director, and designed by award-winning exhibition designer Steven McNamara of Roji, showcased an immersive, sensory, and child-centred experience. It combined Butler Gallery’s exhibition expertise with Cartoon Saloon's worldwide reach and distinctive style, aiming to captivate audiences of all ages.
